Growing up, my family wasn’t on the fortunate side. We had many problems that most families are lucky enough to not go through. The main problem of all was unfortunately drug abuse, and, as a child, I didn’t understand. Neither did my brothers, all of it was out of our concern because we thought we were normal kids. That all changed when we went to live with our dad.
My parents had split up, and my mom initially won custody over my two brothers and I. We then went to live with our mom with visiting time with our dad because he, at the time, didn’t have housing. The authorities eventually realized that my mom was not a good fit, so we would have gone into foster care if my dad had not found housing. He found a house and on March 1st of 2014, we moved in with my dad! I like to believe that he saved me that day.
Once we began living with him full time, it didn’t take me long to realize that we were malnourished, unhealthy, and overall not cared for when we lived with my mom. I learned that going to school was done four days a week and there were three cooked meals a day. Even though there were bumps, my dad was the best parent I could ever ask for.
My dad has taught me almost everything I know today. He taught me how to cook, bake and even small things about carpentry that are unimportant for my interests. He is my inspiration for most of the things I love currently, like the idea of owning my own bakery. He is the wisest but most quick witted person that I have ever met. That’s what makes him have such a great personality and influence on my life. He impacts my everyday life with every word he speaks and could not be a better role model to me.
My dad is not only my favorite person, but my best friend as well. He has been there for me since I can remember. I completely adore him as he means the absolute world to me.He is the greatest factor in my life and will always be. My dad, Jason Chavez, is the most caring, kind, and selfless person that I have ever met and I am so greatly thankful for him for everything he has done for me.
