Have you ever ridden the Amtrak train or any train to visit somewhere? Me and my family ride it whenever we are visiting Kansas, where we used to live.
A lot of people have never thought about riding the train. It’s a fun, inexpensive experience. The seats are like airplane seats, but bigger, and they lay down and expand for sleeping. If you’re going further than an overnight trip you can buy a sleeper ticket, which is a room with an actual bed.
My family and I drive to the train station in La Junta to board the train. We board usually around 7:30 PM. But that can change because sometimes it can be delayed. Our train has been delayed until as late as midnight.
Many other types of transportation like cars or planes are way more common than a train. Plane chairs do not lay back and are not as comfortable as train chairs. Train chairs are also a little bigger. The space is set up like an airplane. But there are 2 floors. But there are rows just like an airplane and 2 seats on each side of the row.
Another thing that is different about any other kind of travel is that you can walk around whenever. There is also a cart that is called the “dining cart” and you can sit down like a restaurant and get food served to you.
There is also a cart that we call the “viewing room” that has seats to look out and watch the train and enjoy the views and hang out. On some trains you are able to go to an “outlook” area where it’s outside. And you can get fresh air and see the views.
Car traveling can get very crammed, and very boring and long. Especially if you’re driving on a long road trip. In the train there is lots of room and snacks and food, The snack cart is almost always open.
For us it’s very convenient to take the train because it’s not expensive and we are able to just get on the train and sleep and when we wake up we are already in Kansas City.
The train turns lights off at 10 pm for people to be able to sleep. But you can still go to the carts to hang out. The train is not loud at all. And you can barely even notice its movement.
Lots of train stops are really cool because they are old looking and just look like they are from the movies. It’s not like something you will ever be able to wait for at an airport or in a car.
