Dom Gorie is a retired US Navy veteran and a retired NASA astronaut. Dom was Born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Lake Charles population is about 80,000 people as of 2022.After high school he went to the United States Naval academy and studied ocean engineering learning things like Building dikes, flood control systems, and power stations in or near the ocean . After graduation he trained as a pilot and served tours of duties abroad he flew combat missions during the gulf war. Then in 1994 he was selected as a good candidate for becoming an astronaut. In 2000 and 2001 he was commander on mission STS-108 where they went to the International Space station where they primarily helped deliver supplies. Dom and his crew spent about 12 days in space. Since Dom has retired in Salida CO with his wife Wendy Gorie.
