A Dog’s Purpose is one of those movies that you can’t get bored of; you can watch it a million times and still want to watch it again. This movie is about a dog that goes through many lives and his journeys as he serves his “purpose” throughout these lives. It is a sequence of five lives that the dog lives throughout the whole movie.
The first life that the dog lived was very short, and it is how the movie begins. I thought it was pretty boring because it was literally like two seconds. So shortly after it gets captured and its first life comes to an end. When his second life begins, it shows him as a Red Retriever puppy and how he got locked in a car to result in a family saving him from the hot car. I was really sad when this happened because the puppy was about to die. He gets the name Bailey from his “boy,” Ethan. They become completely inseparable from day one. Ethan eventually gets a full football scholarship, but he loses it when he breaks his leg escaping a house fire. This scene was so suspenseful to me. Bailey grows old and the family decides to put him down when he spends his last minutes with Ethan. This part made me bawl my eyes out!
In the next life, he gets rebirthed as a German Shepard, but as a girl. Her name was Ellie. Ellie was a police dog. She was a very cute dog, and she seemed really sweet in this life. They go on a case of kidnapping and Ellie saves the kid that got kidnapped, but she gets shot in the process. Ending on a very sad note..
Next is now the fourth life, and he is now a corgi. His owner in this life is a really sweet girl named Mia who is going to college. Mia names him Tito. Mia always shares her human food with Tito and they are best friends, just like me and my dog, Petunia. Mia finds the love of her life as Tito leads her to him in the dog park. They have a family and they live happily until Tito sadly passes of old age. I think this was one of the best lives so far.
His next life was pretty sad in the beginning to me. He gets sold to a girl and his name is Waffles. He gets tied up outside and is never untied until they dump him in the middle of nowhere. He becomes a stray and walks around until he smells a place that was so familiar. He runs and finds the same farm that he grew up on in his life when he was Bailey. Ethan was there, but he was so much older. They found each other but Bailey looked different because it wasn’t the same life. Ethan decided to keep him and named him Buddy. Then Buddy shows that he is Bailey by doing the same things that they did in their past life. This was a shocker to me because I didn’t think that they could find eachother again with such a time difference.
A Dog’s Purpose is one of my favorite movies, and I’m sure it’s many other peoples’ as well. I cried so many times watching this movie, it’s one of those movies that never fails. I completely recommend this movie to anyone and everyone who loves dogs. I also think this movie was meant to lead you on and make you happy during their lives just so it’s even sadder when the dog dies, but a good thought process if you really think about it. I rate this movie a 10/10 and it’s my go to movie when I need a good cry, so when you’re feeling that way; watch this movie!
