This year, Salida High School welcomed a new C Team coach for the SHS volleyball team named Kendra Smith. Smith is originally from Salida, Colorado. She was an active teen, as she played both volleyball and soccer as sports for all four of the years of her high school career.
Smith has a lot of experience coaching. She was a head coach for the volleyball team in Cotopaxi, Colorado for two years. Smith’s favorite thing to coach in volleyball is defense for middles.
“I really loved stuff blocking other teams, and I love helping other girls who want to do the same,” Smith said.
So far, Smith has been incredibly popular among her players. She is an incredibly empathetic and helpful coach, and her players have seen major improvements under her guidance.
Smith also loves helping players on their hitting. She wishes to build players’ confidence in hopes of becoming appreciable young adults. Smith has a huge passion for helping youth become successful individuals in and outside of school. She hopes her players will continue to grow this season and work to be the best they can be.
A player from her team, Neveah Talley, mentions that she has helped her with leadership skills in volleyball and outside of school. Smith gives academic support to her players by always offering to help with homework. She hopes for the players to build each other up and continue their passion for the sport of volleyball.
Smith is a very consistent coach. Players say she has a lot of repetitive drills and practices. She loves volleyball and wants to continue working with her players to carry on with building up their skills and confidence. Her goal for her team so far is for her players to continue giving their best effort, not only just in games, but in practices as well. She also hopes to break some of the bad habits that a bit of her team has. Smith expects the girls to continue to show determination even when things get difficult.
Our new C Team coach, Kendra Smith, is already a beloved member of the Salida High School volleyball team. She seems like a great fit for our school, and everyone is excited to see how she grows here at SHS!
