With the start of school, many have already begun fall sports. Fall sports consist of football, volleyball, soccer and cross country. Many kids play sports, and the numbers continue to grow more and more each year.
Football starts around two weeks before school starts and ends three months after school starts. Football is one of the most popular sports during the fall for Americans. Homecoming in football is a big event for many high school students, and homecoming is one of the most popular events for high school students. Football is a very important tradition to Salida, and many people want our team to win the championship.
Volleyball also starts before school. Volleyball has about 78% female players compared to 22% male players. Volleyball is played on the same court as a basketball court but less area is used. One team sets the ball over the net by hitting it while the other team tries to bump it up before the ball hits the ground. If so, they try to hit it over the net onto the other team’s court. If the ball hits the ground, the other team gets a point. Volleyball is a fall sport for many high schools, and many participate. I think volleyball is hard to master personally
Soccer is an amazing sport and is played all around the world by many countries. Originally, it was played competitively by England. Many countries then began to play against each other. Here at Salida High School, there are also lots of people that play both in and out of school. The last recorded championship won for the school was in 2004. Do you think they could do it this year? Soccer has been passed down for many years in Salida, and its sport will continue to grow every year for many years after today.
Cross country is running for miles off roads. Cross country first started back in 1878, and it was created in England. This sport consists of running on a trail or just running to reach the end of a track. Running might be hard, but racing against more than 50 people to try and get 1st is harder. Many people cannot try cross country because of the high elevation and constant pace running. Many runs consist of more than two miles and stretching and exercises.
