If you asked me, I would say that winter is the worst season. The weather is cold, so there’s barely anything to do. The days are short, so you are waking up in the dark and going home in the dark. The cold makes your lips and skin chapped. Icy roads make it hard to go anywhere. In winter, it is hard to find things that make you happy when it’s not the holidays.
For me, one of the only good things about winter is snow. I think that there are many different ways to appreciate snow in winter. You can’t beat the feeling of waking up on a snowy morning when the ground is freshly covered with snow and the town seems peaceful and calm. Snow can give that calming effect easily. Watching snow fall is known to be very therapeutic and help you slow down your thoughts. I think it is fascinating to watch snow fall. You know that each snowflake is a different shape, and they all are so tiny yet fall to make one big blanket.
Recently, my dad was driving me and my brother home from school; it had just started snowing and the wind was blowing really hard. The snow was making beautiful swishing patterns all over the road. My little brother was amazed, so, before going inside, we took an extra drive to look at the snow patterns on the street.
Snow also brings the best winter sport, skiing. Without skiing, winter wouldn’t have a sport. There are more than 11.6 million skiers and snowboarders in the US. The feeling of flying down a fresh, powdery run is unforgettable. Skiing can give adrenaline and excitement that you can’t find anywhere else. Snow can also be very helpful when you hit a gnarly jump and don’t land it.
Lastly, just being in the snow is lots of fun. It’s wonderful getting all bundled up and building a snowman, having a snowball fight, or making a snow cave. Not to mention the warm hot chocolate you get to drink when you finally go inside. I get lots of nostalgic memories from my childhood days out in the snow. Even if you are not young, playing in the snow can still be fun.
Winter can bring a cold gloomy mood over people but I encourage you to find your “snow”. Just find something that can bring you joy in the coldness until we get to spring.
