The Girls Basketball 2024-2025 year is full of promise and potential. Leading the charge is the sole senior of the team, Megan Devenport. Devenport has high hopes for the team, and explained that the team will do best if they don’t get too confident, and continue working hard. Her high hopes were proved correct, as the girls’ recent victories have propelled them to State Championships.
Devenport has some goals both individually and as a team. Individually, she wants to focus more on offense, since her defense game is very strong. She says she aims to go for more baskets instead of focusing on defense, to hopefully improve her offense game as an individual.
As a team, Devenport says, “we have a really good group right now,” and explains that if the team starts working hard from the start of the season, they will be more likely to succeed. She recalls last year, when her team made it to the tournament, and they realized, “oh shoot, we’re good, we should start working hard.”
The team has changed a lot compared to last season. Devenport sees a lot of potential in the freshman, and is happy with all the newcomers. In fact, she says there are almost more freshmen this year than the team had in total last year.
The season won’t be a yellow brick road, however. There will always be some challenges throughout the season. So far, they include, “getting back into shape and getting back into playing immediately.” The future will hold some challenges as well, such as the team keeping a good mindset going into every game. Devenport said, “if we can keep our minds set, even go into every game knowing we gotta try hard and give it every chance, then we’ll do really good.”
Being the only senior on the team has provided Devenport with a lot of opportunities, including acting as a mentor and role model to the younger students who have joined the team. She hopes she can help the younger kids, “see how the program is, how we respond to things, and how the coaching is.”
Devenport says, “I personally love going to games, and just like the atmosphere, like you know, warming up with the team and getting ready and just like the competitive feel, it just, you know, that’s pretty exciting and especially if you win.” She is overall very excited for the rest of the season, and has high hopes for the team.
