Self care is something that everybody in the world has to deal with everyday of their lives. Self care can be a very broad spectrum of taking care of oneself; whether that be physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, or possibly more. As a high school student, self care is pretty crucial when it comes to all of the things that teens have to deal with.
Appearance is very important to most teens and students, and usually to a fault. I personally think that when you are in the mindset of thinking that you look good, and you’re happy with your appearance, then you feel physically better and happier going through life. Teens unfortunately tend to get a little bit too caught up in appearance and can be judgmental or put others down for their personal choices, which I think is just unnecessary. Appearance can be a helpful and important thing, but it shouldn’t become a major stress in your life, and you shouldn’t get overly caught up in what other people may be thinking of you and how you look.
Self care is also hugely about taking care of yourself mentally. Taking care of yourself mentally could simply be trying to look at what you’re facing from an external point of view and reassuring yourself about what’s changeable, achievable, what may not be your fault, and what could get better.
People tend to forget how important taking care of yourself mentally can be and healthy habits or ways to go about doing so. Taking care of yourself emotionally can really go hand in hand with taking care of yourself mentally. Taking care of yourself emotionally can have a huge impact on how you make it through challenges in school, or life, or relationships, and can be detrimental to your overall well being if not properly cared for.
There are so many helpful tools and things in life that can brighten your spirits or lift your moods or find healthy coping habits for improvement of one’s self care. Self care should never be overlooked, regardless of the circumstances and I think that people should always remember how much of an impact it can make both negatively or positively according to how well you treat yourself and others around you.
