One of the most beloved teachers is retiring. Many students’ favorite teacher, Brendan Cassidy, is leaving our school. But he is not leaving for good as he is still going to try to be a part of the community by being a substitute teacher on occasion.
Cassidy has been teaching in a public school setting for 21 years and is excited to be retiring, but sad to be leaving the students of Salida High School. Cassidy is going to do a lot after he leaves and try to fill up his days as much as he can. On Cassidy‘s list of things to do after he retires is going to Alaska to visit his family. Also, Cassidy wants to pursue his hobby in creating wooden boats.
Outside of school, Cassidy loves to play music and enjoys using music as a form of meditation to relax. The thing that Cassidy is going to miss the most is playing music with the other teachers. He enjoyed very much having friends that were also teachers in his place of work. Another thing Cassidy is going to miss the most is his students. Cassidy says, “I don’t go home at night and watch TV because I get enough entertainment out of my day from you guys.”
As Cassidy departs he gives students at SHS the advice of, “keep the learning part of your mind fresh…And I would say just never give up.”
Cassidy’s advice to anyone wanting to become a teacher in the future is to, “Buckle up!” Cassidy loved his career and he is sad that it’s time for a change, but this will be the turning of the new page in his life. Salida High School will miss Cassidy’s fun presence but remain excited for his exciting future aside from teaching.
