For as far back as I can remember, TV and movies have always played a significant role in my life. From early childhood I would obsess over my favorite movies and shows and widen my knowledge, perspectives, and imagination by watching them. I have always felt that TV shows and movies can be so educational and leave you with things that could stick with you for the rest of your life.
Now, of course that only becomes a beneficial thing at that age when you’re watching TV shows and movies that are appropriate and won’t leave you with traumatic information or images. But with the right kind of information being absorbed, watching TV shows and movies can help you in different circumstances throughout your whole life. Whether it’s just a motivational quote, something funny from a TV show or movie that you may think of on a bad day to make you laugh, or it’s survival skills you may have picked up from shows or movies about scary situations and what best to do to keep yourself safe. I can think of so many examples of this such as people always quoting “Spongebob” in an attempt to better lighten the mood, or remembering scenes with important life lessons like on “Full House”.
I love the creativity of the mind and how detailed TV shows and movies can be created. I personally really enjoy the otherworldly aspect of feeling like your imagination gets transported to other worlds and universes through watching TV shows and movies. I think TV shows and movies are an incredible form of expression of the mind and that they can benefit people in so many ways. I’ve heard my whole life that “television rots your brain,” but I can think of so many situations or circumstances where information or inspiration that I got from a show or a movie has helped me make it through something difficult.
