Summer has come to an end, and as the school year starts to go by, it is already fall! There are many fall traditions and activities to participate in during this season, especially with holidays and other fun events. In order to figure out an accurate representation of the school’s favorites, different perspectives within Salida High School were researched to see what others enjoy doing during this changing season and if they have anything in common!
For context on the SHS students’ and staffs’ favorite fall entertainments, the United States general fall entertainment choices are important to consider. Pumpkin picking and/or carving, baking, visiting fall festivals, going to haunted houses, and simply enjoying the vibrant fall foliage all fell into this topic. The use of this knowledge narrowed it down to these certain activities that were most likely going to be the most popular based on a public opinion.
After surveying 32 candidates, with a mix of students and teachers, 40% of votes went towards baking, making it the most popular fall activity of the season. Baking is shortly followed by haunted houses with 32%, pumpkin picking/carving with 16%, fall foliage with 0.08%, and lastly, fall festivals with 0.05%.
While many still love baking during any time of the year, survey responders said adding pumpkin spice and trying out various fall recipes makes everything so much more fun. Pumpkin Spice is a blend of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, and all spice, which adds a nostalgic and comforting taste to your fall treats, even though there is no actual pumpkin incorporated into the mix. Salida High School Sophomore Leah Paschall stated “My favorite dessert is cinnamon rolls, and they just taste so much better during the fall, especially with extra cream cheese frosting!”
Another trend that was shown in this survey is that even when 40% of people—almost half of the votes—leaned towards baking, most of them preferred getting to eat the goods rather than actually baking them. If you want to make someone’s day while still having fun, make them a fall treat that is both enjoyable to bake, but also enjoyable to eat!
The idea that many dislike horror greatly contrasts with the results of this fall survey. Haunted houses are also highly favored across the school community, being the second favorite fall activity yet. The adrenaline rush of haunted houses makes them exciting, thrilling, and something to look forward to during this turning season. Salida High School Sophomore Ariana Miller, stated, “I like them because they get my heart racing and it’s super fun to go with my friends!”
