Recently I went through quite a lot of difficult life challenges and as I have come out of them, I have rediscovered my love for so many overlooked things in life. The phrase “you need to stop and smell the roses” is crucial to living a much happier life. I have learned that your mindset and perspective on life, whether you’re feeling good, bad, happy or sad, has a huge effect on how well you’re able to handle those types of situations, and if it can help grow your character or break you down.
Learning to romanticize life truly has helped me regain my spark. I think it can be incredibly challenging to try and romanticize life when you may be going through very dark times or are struggling with poor mental states. However, trying as hard as you can to make life more enjoyable and find happiness in the most mundane of things can truly make a lot better for you.
One of my personal favorite examples of this is the colorful soap in a carwash. The colorful soap in a car wash to me is such a thoughtful and exhilarating thing that someone thought to add to make such a minor activity that much more special. I will always get excited about a detail that makes something regular that much more enjoyable.
Another lovely example is treating yourself to a more in depth self care routine if you have the energy for it. Little things like having a nice bath, or spraying your favorite perfume in a hot shower, or treating yourself to a new lotion can make a much bigger impact on your mental health than you may expect.
Learning how to romanticize life keeps me inspired to find the good in each and every day. Realistically, it is incredibly hard to consistently maintain a positive mindset, but truly searching for the good even in a bad day is so important to helping you lead a more enjoyable life. According to Teen Magazine, “The whole point of romanticization is to turn simple, everyday things into something special. To see yourself as the main character, where even the smallest actions feel meaningful.” The idea of turning the simple and mundane of life into something aesthetic and optimistic has been a huge trend for quite some time now. Many teens especially on YouTube or TikTok are grasping the ideology of romanticizing life and trying to find the aesthetically pleasing in everything. This has been widely spoken of working quite well, especially for younger teens discovering themselves.
I am beyond grateful for adapting to this lifestyle as well as I have, and I hope this can inspire others to try it out and see if they can find life just a little bit more enjoyable in something everyday.
