The annual Sunfest is returning to Salida on May 22, 2026, bringing a day full of music, food and community activities to Riverside Park. For many locals, Sunfest marks the true beginning of summer. Sutton said that he believes their music stands out because they focus heavily on improvising, especially during the guitar solos. Instead of just playing songs exactly how they were originally written, the band adds in their own style. Sutton also explained how style shows up when his band practices. He noted that he usually starts by listening to the song, then improvising within the key. “This allows me to find a more original sound, so it does not sound exactly like the actual song” he said. That approach not only helps the band stand out, but also keeps the performances fresh and interesting for the audience.
While musicians like Sutton help shape the energy of the event, Sunfest itself offers much more than just live music. Vendors line up on F street with booths that have handmade goods, artwork and clothing, giving local businesses a chance to connect directly with the community. Food trucks are another big attraction. They offer a wide range of options that sustain people at Riverside Park throughout the performances. In addition to shopping and food, Sunfest also provides entertainment and activities for every age group. Families can be seen moving through different areas of the park, where kids participate in games on the playground, and other people gather to watch the surfers perform tricks on the waves in the Arkansas River.
